The Architects Register Admission Exam (ARAE) provides a pathway for experienced architectural professionals in Ireland to achieve recognition.
Accredited by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, the ARAE validates practical knowledge, design competence, and professional skills, ensuring candidates meet the standards required to register as Architects under the Building Control Act 2007.
ARAE Exam Overview
The ARAE consists of 3 stages.

1
Verification of Experience
Candidates demonstrate seven years of relevant architectural experience, providing documentation to verify the extent and range of their professional activities.
Stage
2
Assessment of Design Competence
Candidates complete written exams and a design project, demonstrating technical knowledge and creative abilities across key areas of architectural design.
Stage
3
Assessment of Practice Competence
Candidates are assessed for applied knowledge in practice, professional skill, legislation and procurement through written exams and oral assessments.
