About ARAE
Recognising Real-World Skill in Architecture
The Architects Register Admission Exam (ARAE) offers an established pathway for experienced practitioners in Ireland to formalise their professional standing.
Accredited by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and prescribed under the Building Control Act 2007, ARAE ensures that successful candidates demonstrate the comprehensive skill set required for registration as an Architect in Ireland.
This process recognises practical experience, design proficiency, and in-depth knowledge across architectural domains, opening doors to professional recognition and Registration.
Why Choose ARAE?
The ARAE examination is specifically designed for experienced practitioners.
ARAE’s structure allows candidates to validate their experience and prove competence, gained through practice.
Recent candidates have shared that the examination is not only rewarding but serves as a robust affirmation of the knowledge, skill and competence needed to practice as an architect in Ireland.
A Statutory and Accredited Process
The title “architect” is legally protected under the Building Control Act 2007, ensuring that only those who meet defined professional standards may use it.
Since its establishment in 2009, ARAE has provided an established and recognised route to this statutory register.
Accredited by RIAI in 2011 and formally recognised by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in 2012, the examination aligns with the standards of training set by the EU Qualifications Directive (Directive 2005/36/EC).
