In 2026, ARAE will offer a professional practice examination, as a new route to the Register for Architects. ARAE Advanced Entry is an opportunity for graduates in architecture who have 7 years experience in practice, and who are over 35 years of age.

Assessments will be online and the process can be completed within four months, comprising:

Stage 1: Documentation to demonstrate 7 years practice experience. ARAE provides template documents for this submission which is due by 04 March 2026.

Stage 2: Evidence of 5-year qualification in architecture.

Stage 3: Assessment of competence in Professional Practice. This includes written examinations in four subject areas and an oral examination. There is no requirement for a case study. These exams will be in Autumn 2026. Fees for ARAE Advanced Entry are €4,940. Late applications €5,490.

ARAE Standard Entry will also be available in 2026 and applications are currently open. This route, which can be completed in one year, is for practitioners without qualifications in architecture and includes assessment in design competence. 2026 Fees for ARAE Standard Entry are €10,530, payable in stages.
