This page provides essential information for new applicants interested in the Architects Register Admission Exam (ARAE). From eligibility requirements to application steps, this guide will help you navigate the first steps toward registration.
1. Standard Entry
Who Can Apply?
ARAE – Standard Entry is open to architectural practitioners with at least seven years of practical experience, whether or not they hold formal academic qualifications.
Applicants must:
- Have at least seven years of professional experience in architectural duties
- Be 35 years of age or older by the time they apply for final registration
Other Considerations:
Prospective candidates should be prepared for a multi-stage assessment process that requires a broad skill set in design, practice management, and construction knowledge.
2. Application Steps
Step 1: Register Interest
Candidates can express interest in the ARAE process by contacting ARAE via email at [email protected]. This will allow you to receive important updates and resources
Step 2: Submit Application for Stage 1
Download and complete the official application form, available in the Forms Portal. Include all required documentation to verify your experience. After submission, ARAE will issue a candidate number and provide template documents for the next steps.
Step 3: Progressing Through Examination Stages

Repeat Fees:
Fees for repeat assessments are charged per subject.
3. Key Dates & Deadlines
Application Period
Applications for Stage 1 are accepted from October each year. Submission deadlines and any upcoming information meetings are announced in advance.
Examination Schedule
he ARAE examination stages are offered annually. Be sure to check the Resources section for any updates regarding deadlines or examination dates.
4. Fees
Stage 1 Application Fee:
€1,000 (non refundable)
Stages 2+3 Examination Fee:
€9,530.00
Repeat Examination Fees:
- Written Subjects: €450.00
- Oral Exams and Design Project: €500.00
